Danielle: "Oh yeah? What's his name?"
Charley: (thinking very hard) "Hmmmm, I think his name is . . . um . . . oh yeah, I think his name is something like 'Watermelon.'"
Danielle: (with skepticism) "His name is Watermelon? Are you sure?"
Charley "Yeah, Watermelon . . . oh wait, no, no . . . not Watermelon . . . I think his name is 'Cantaloupe.'"
Danielle: "Ohhhhh, his name is Cantaloupe, not Watermelon?"
Charley: "Yeah, Cantaloupe."
Danielle: (playing along) "Oh yeah, a new boy named Cantaloupe, I see."
***Epilogue: That evening, out of curiosity, I asked one of the other moms at a preschool meeting if there was a new kid in the class. "Oh, yes, I forgot to tell you," she replied, "He just started last week." Even more curious, I asked, "Oh yeah? What's his name?" Her response? ANGELO.
Watermelon to Cantaloupe to Angelo . . . interesting, Charley. :)
