Ho-Hum . . .

Not a whole lot new to report here. So I will bore you with the details today. ;)

We are working on our second week of preschool, and so far I couldn't ask for happier kids. They both love their teachers, their classes, and their friends, and not one tear has been shed from either child since we started. Both kids go to class on Monday and Wednesday morning, and Charley also goes on Friday morning. Last week on Friday, Zander was upset that he couldn't go to school like Charley and couldn't understand that he didn't have class that day. However, as soon I reassured him that he would in fact being going back to class the next week, he was okay. Brian and I actually had a morning alone on Monday (woo hoo!), so we spent the time shopping for Zander's birthday present and perusing the bookstore. It was fabulous. Today my friend Andre talked me in to going for a run during class time, and I'm planning on making this a regular routine. Yep, I think this school thing is going to work out just fine.

Hawaii was supposed to get hit by Hurricane Felicia this week, but it turned out to be much to-do about nothing. Felicia hit some cooler water on her way here and ended up being nothing more than a minor rainstorm and a little wind, no more than we are used to. However, it did get us into hurricane-ready mode, as we are now stocked up on batteries and water, so I guess that's the good thing that came of it. We live very high up in the hills, so there is not much danger in our area other than any damage that high winds might do, but at least flooding is not an issue for us. I'm betting that we will get to experience a decent hurricane at some point while we live here, as they usually run on ten-year cycles and we are going on eleven years right now. Maybe this year will be the year.

Brian's sister, Jen, will be arriving tomorrow from Michigan for a visit, so we are all looking forward to that. The kids are crazy about their Auntie Jen, and Charley already has a list of things she wants to do with Jen while she is here. Jen, I sure hope you have a lot of energy. Other than Charley's plans, we don't have a ton of stuff specifically planned out yet, but I know the days will quickly fill themselves.

Zander's birthday is on Friday, so we will probably do something small that day, like a candle in a brownie along with some present opening . . . but we have the real excitement saved for Saturday, when Zander is having a "bug birthday" at the Bishop Museum. A very long time ago, Zander told me he wanted to have a bug birthday party this year, and it just so happens that the museum has a huge bug display right now as part of their rotating collection. So we are going to meet up with a few friends at the Museum, where we will explore the bug display for awhile, followed by a picnic of snacks and cake out on the lawn, followed by presents. Zander is VERY excited for his birthday, and is especially excited to be three. Because, you know, three is SO much older than two.

This weekend is also Bay Fest out at the Marine Corps Base here on island, so we will be hitting that up too. A couple months ago, the kids saw a mini-carnival nearby and begged me to take them. However, I knew that Bay Fest was coming up and it has a carnival too, along with other cool stuff, like static displays of tanks, helicopters, and planes, so I made them wait. And now, thanks to careful planning, Auntie Jen can participate in the carnival events too. I bet she can't wait.

Guess that's about it here. Things are quiet for the moment, but I think I'm enjoying them that way.
